My Womb for My Brother’s Wedding No, I’ll See You in Jail!
After my own mother sent me to the factory, I completely lost my ability to bear children.
At the surrogacy factory deep in the remote mountains, I went through examinations, screening, waiting, embryo transfer, and successful conception.
And I, who had never known a man... became a mother. All because only this way could my brother afford the bride price to get married.
What? You're saying the bride price is no longer needed?
"Don't stop nowI haven't had enough yet. Let me burn some more for you..."
On my eighteenth birthday, my mother rented mealong with my wombto an underground factory.
"Its just for one year, Chloe. Hang in there. Youll be out just in time for Tylers wedding next year!"
Tyler, Tyler, always Tyler. Why did my life have to be ruined just to fund his lavish wedding and buy him a house?
Seeing me freeze in front of the factory gates, Helen lost her temper and slapped me across the face. "Chloe Davis! Hes the one whos going to carry on our family name! How can you be so selfish?"
Then, realizing she shouldn't push me too far, she started crying, playing the victim. "Your dad and I are broke. We have no other choice. Please, my sweet girl, help your mother out!"
But who was going to help me?
I was pushed inside the facility.
Like a piece of meat on a butcher's block, I was led from one examination room to another, undergoing test after test.
The process was cold and highly organized. It took an entire day before a "doctor" in a white coat announced I was fit for the program.
He offered Helen a price that made her eyes light up with greed.
Before I could even look at the contract, Helen snatched it away. She flipped straight to the signature page. "Just sign it, Chloe. What do you even know? You didn't even finish high school. Look how professional this place is. I would never hurt you!"
"What kind of 'professional' place takes barely-legal virgins just to breed babies for strangers?"
"Shut up! The three Miller sisters from down the road came here too, and none of them whined like you. Sign it, now!"
Helen grabbed my hand and forced my thumb onto the ink pad, stamping it onto the paper.
Afterward, clutching a thick stack of hundred-dollar bills, she couldn't stop grinning. "Be good, Chloe. I'll come get you next year."
She walked back down the dirt road, leaving me behind.
And just like that, she pushed me into a living nightmare.
I was assigned to an eight-person dorm.
Inside, girls were squeezed into a tiny space, chatting and laughing.
My roommate, Lily, leaned back in her chair and sighed. "Honestly, this feels just like my college dorm. Pretty cozy."
She was gorgeous and wore what looked like expensive designer clothes. I, on the other hand, was wearing oversized hand-me-downs. Some girls were curiousif she had gone to college, why was she in a place like this?
Lily carefully put her designer bag back into its dust cover and shrugged. "Easy money. I have one baby here, and I can live like a queen for the next six months."
"This isn't your first time?" I asked, genuinely curious.
She looked me up and down, her tone slightly dismissive. "Nope. I did my first run when I was a freshman."
She sat on her bed and started removing her makeup. "Once you pop the baby out and get the cash, you'll realize how great it is. No work, just eating and sleeping. All you have to do is be fertile. I plan to do two more runs, use the cash for plastic surgery, and then marry some rich guy."
"A rich guy? He'll probably just make you his side piece," Sarah, an older woman sitting by the table, said bluntly.
"Still better than you," Lily snapped back. "At least I spend my money on myself. Youre way past your prime. Let me guess, did some deadbeat trick you into coming here?"
Sarahs eyes instantly welled up with tears.
She did look older, standing out like a sore thumb among us twenty-somethings. Honestly, she shouldn't have been accepted here.
The dorm went dead silent.
I wasn't much of a talker, but Lily was naturally social. She wrapped her arm around mine and started asking questions.
"Your name is Chloe, right? Have you ever had a boyfriend?"
I shook my head.
"Ugh, I'm so jealous. A pure virgin. Some buyers pay a premium for girls like you. They think you're 'clean.' Your rate must be way higher than mine."
She leaned in and whispered in my ear, "How much did they give you for the deposit?"
"My mom took all of it."
"You gave the money to your mother?" She was genuinely shocked.
"She made me do this. To fund Tylers wedding. His fiance's family won't let him marry her unless he has a huge down payment for a house."
Lily looked at me with deep pity.
In a way, she was luckier than me. Her mother ignored her and never gave her money, but at least she didn't steal Lily's money either.
Sensing my envy, Lily pulled down her mask, revealing a massive scar on the side of her face. It was the size of a fist, jagged and terrifying.
"Got this from a glass bottle when my parents were fighting during my childhood. I tried applying for waitressing jobs, but they rejected me. Said Id ruin the restaurants aesthetic. Assholes."
I didn't know how to comfort her. She was such a sweet girl, willing to expose her own painful scar just to make me feel better.
I could only give her a gentle hug.
She smiled at me. "Go wash up and get some sleep. Don't stay up late. You have the procedure tomorrow."
My heart did a violent flip. "Procedure?!"
The thought of the procedure terrified me. I tossed and turned all night, unable to sleep.
Staring at the dorm window, I could see two layers of thick steel mesh. Through the gaps, the faint starlight of the night sky flickered.
Lily was fast asleep, snoring softly. It was hard to believe such a pretty girl could snore like that.
My mind drifted to the image of Tyler right before I left. He was lounging on the couch, scrolling through TikTok, liking thirst traps.
I couldn't understand. Why couldn't he earn his own damn money?
Why did he have to sell my womb to get what he wanted?
In the darkness, someone was sobbing. It was Sarah. She was shaking, probably remembering something awful.
I rolled over and noticed a tiny scribble scratched into the wall where my mattress met the plaster.
"Run. Take your baby and run. This place eats people alive."
The handwriting was jagged and faint, as if carved with a fingernail.
A shiver ran down my spine. What had happened here? Wasn't it just about giving birth?
The woman who left that message... was she even still alive?
Morning finally came.
We were lined up and led into the pre-op waiting room.
Lily squeezed my freezing hand, trying to reassure me. "Chloe, don't worry. It hurts a bit, but just grit your teeth and it'll be over before you know it."
The operating table still had faint, washed-out bloodstains on it.
I froze, terrified to climb up.
"Pants off. Lie down. Legs in the stirrups," came the cold, robotic command.
The male "doctor" picked up a long, thin plastic catheter. A nurse quickly tied a black cloth over my eyes and pinned my shoulders down.
"Don't move. You'll feel a pinch. We're placing the embryo in your uterus, and then you're done."
The doctors and nurses here were like machines. No warmth, no empathy.
It hurt so bad...
For those few endless minutes, I fought the urge to scream and run, my hands gripping the metal rails of the bed so hard my knuckles turned white.
"All done. Next."
It was over. I kept my head down, quickly walking back to my seat, my legs trembling.
Lily gently patted my stomach. "There's a little life in there now. Crazy, isn't it?"
I felt completely detached.
Was there really a tiny life inside me now?
We were taken back to our high-security cage.
I stared out the window. There were no classrooms here, no parks, no school bells...
Only barbed wire, sterile operating rooms, and the eerie cawing of crows...
Except for our weekly check-ups, we were rarely allowed outside to breathe fresh air.
Even taking a shower was a luxury.
Everyone carefully guarded their bellies. After all, those bellies were carrying hundreds of thousands of dollars.
My morning sickness was brutal. I couldn't keep anything down.
I ran to the bathroom a dozen times a day, throwing up nothing but stomach acid.
"Sweetheart, you have to eat for the baby."
Sarah put two large pieces of braised beef into my bowl.
She said I was too thin, that I didn't even look pregnant.
Lily stared at me, agreeing with Sarah for once. "Chloe, you seriously need to eat. Your face is ghost-white. If you keep this up, you might miscarry."
I instinctively touched my face. Wasn't my skin usually tanned and dull?
"There's a mandatory physical next month. If you're still severely malnourished, they'll terminate the pregnancy."
No...
My body went cold. If I failed to deliver a baby within my one-year "lease," Helen wouldn't get the rest of the money.
To secure Tyler's wedding, she would absolutely sell me for another year!
I instinctively clutched my stomach.
That night, I dreamed I was covered in crying babies. They clung to my arms and legs, laughing and crying, and no matter where I ran, I couldn't shake them off.
A few weeks later, one of the girls in our dorm was close to her due date.
We decided to celebrate for her.
Someone bribed a guard with some cash, and he managed to smuggle in a small birthday cake.
As she blew out the candles, she started crying, saying she couldn't bear to give her baby up.
The room fell into a heavy silence.
Late that night, the facility's alarms blared, and floodlights illuminated the entire yard.
The pregnant girl had tried to escape through the bathroom window. She was hunted down and mauled by the facility's guard dogs.
The baby didn't survive.
In the dead of night, I could hear her faint, agonizing screams from the medical wing.
I suddenly missed my childhood friends.
Maya was only sixteen when her parents forced her into a marriage with a wealthy, older creep to pay off their debts. Amber had tried to run away from our isolated, cult-like town in the middle of the night, and I still didn't know if she made it or got kidnapped. And me? My own mother sold me to this disgusting baby farm, keeping me locked up like a prisoner.
Why did girls like us have to have such miserable fates?
Lily paced around the room with her heavily pregnant belly.
She wanted a natural birth because the buyer had promised her an extra ten thousand dollars for it.
"Chloe, look at my belly. It seems smaller than yours."
I held my aching lower back as I shuffled out of the bathroom. My appetite had improved lately, and some color had returned to my cheeks.
"It's just because you're so tiny. It makes your bump look bigger," she rambled on.
I didn't know where Lily got all her energy. She kept gesturing and talking excitedly.
I forced a smile and lay back down on my bed.
My eyes fell on those scratched words again.
I figured even if this place was a hellhole, they would at least ensure the babies' safety, right?
I stroked my bump. My only hope now was to deliver this baby safely and get my freedom.
Unfortunately, I was dead wrong.
I walked out of the ultrasound room feeling numb.
Lily looked at me with deep concern.
"Why did the check-up take so long?"
"My numbers aren't great. Still malnourished. They put me on an IV drip."
"They actually did something nice for once?"
I shook my head. "I don't know."
I dreamed of babies again that night. This time, they weren't clinging to me. They were just waving goodbye.
When I woke up, my face was wet with tears.
I touched my stomach.
I had been pregnant with triplets. During the ultrasound, they had selectively terminated two of them.
Because the buyer only wanted one boy. The other two were just "surplus."
The person who wrote on the wall was right.
I had to run.
I had to get out of here.
This place was a meat grinder.
It was a hell that devoured even the children they so desperately wanted.
New girls arrived at the facility every day.
